We’ve reached peak snobbery when it comes to baby-naming.
These days, when children are being named after names like “Game of Thrones” characters, weather patterns, and ingredients in gin, it’s beginning to seem like literally anything goes when it comes to selecting a cute, attention-getting moniker for your offspring.
But actually deciding on an ultra-hip name is not easy work. What will still be unique when your kids are signing their names on fingerpainting works? Or applying to college? Or winning the Nobel Peace Prize? How do you find a cool word to call another human being for their whole lives without it sounding too much like a company that sells exorbitantly priced artisan chestnuts?
This Hipster Baby Name Generator of course, which recently surfaced online.
The generator allows you to select between “male,” “female,” and “non-conformist” and then decide between personality-defining cues about your baby, like “Breastfeed? They have a preference for Craft Milk” or “They count holistic gemstones instead of sheep.”
See? Naming a baby is simple. I can’t wait to take my own gluten-free, paleo and vegan child, who will be named Scout Fig Odie, to all the hip fair-trade coffee collective.
