SUPER-VIRAL music video Gangnam Style has passed ONE BILLION YouTube views – the first clip to reach the mammoth milestone.
The South Korean pop track, by rapper PSY, was already the most-viewed video in the site’s history, after overtaking Justin Bieber’s Baby in late November.
And it finally broke into ten figures today, following a web campaign pushing to ensure the landmark takes place on today’s date – said by the ancient Mayans to be the day the world was due to end.
In the six months since the song’s July release it has enjoyed huge success around the globe, hitting No1 in over 34 countries, and charting in dozens of others.

It topped the UK charts in October, becoming the first South Korean track to do so.
While the song – which mocks the fashion-conscious folks of the Gangnam district of South Korean capital Seoul – might not seem like an obvious hit, its success is largely down to its trademark dance.
The invention of singer PSY – real name Park Jae-sang – it involves crossing the wrists while imitating riding a horse.
And PSY has been happy to teach others how to master it, showing Toxic singer Britney Spears the moves on a US chat show.
Even politicians haven jumped on board with the trend, with PSY invited to the United Nations to give a lesson to Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
Explaining the secret to the quirky jig, PSY explained: “When you dance you’ve got to think you’re riding an invisible horse in your lower body.
“This is the point of the Gangnam Style – dress classy and dance cheesy.”
The star is estimated to have made £150,210 from the YouTube views alone, with around £5million more from CD sales, downloads, and live gigs.
It was revealed today that the 34-year-old had splashed out some of his fortune on a £770,000 apartment in Beverly Hills, LA – paying in cash for the two-bedroom home.
