China celebrates Christmas Gangnam Style Updated: 10:11, Wednesday December 26, 2012

A large international and local crowd enjoyed a rare Christmas parade in Shanghai on Christmas Eve, which featured a dance to Psy’s Gangnam Style.

The half hour parade took place in Shanghai’s Happy Valley and featured a series of Christmas and holiday imagery, a rare sight in China.

‘I’m extremely excited because there are many foreigners here, and their make-up is exquisite. I like it very much and it makes me want to blend in on the stage,’ Zhang Shengnan, a participant in the Gangnam performance, told Reuters.

Gangnam Style has recently passed the billion hits mark on YouTube after only five months since being posted on the social media video site.

Previously, Justin Bieber’s hit Baby was the site’s most-viewed video but Gangnam Style overtook it on November 24.

The video by 34-year-old pop star Psy was uploaded in July and shows the singer making fun of the extravagant lifestyle of the residents of Gangnam, a neighbourhood where he grew up in the capital, Seoul.
