CW Picks Up 'The Flash' and Three Other Shows - Rickey.org

The CW is finalizing its lineup for the 2014-2015 broadcast season. Just today, the network renewed Beauty and the Beast, in addition to picking up The 100 and Hart of Dixie. Meanwhile, it unfortunately proved to be the end of the road for The Tomorrow People, The Carrie Diaries, and Star-Crossed, which have all been officially canceled.

But the network has also got some new shows on the horizon.

The announcement is now official: The CW has ordered four new shows to series, including the hotly-anticipated Arrow spinoff, The Flash. Of course, the big shock here is that The CW has apparently passed on the much-hyped Supernatural spinoff, Supernatural: Bloodlines. I suppose an Arrow spinoff and a Vampire Diaries spinoff were enough spinoffs for one network.

Here’s a complete rundown of the four brand-new shows that have been picked up to series, via the official press release:

THE FLASH: Based upon characters published by DC Comics. Through a freak accident, scientist Barry Allen is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive. Cast: Grant Gustin (Barry Allen); Jesse L. Martin (Det. West); Tom Cavanaugh (Harrison Wells).

iZOMBIE: A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. Cast: Rose McIver (Liv).

JANE THE VIRGIN: Adapted from the successful Venezuelan telenovela. A series of surprising and unforeseen events causes a hard-working, religious young Latina woman to be accidentally artificially inseminated. Gina Rodriguez (Jane); Justin Baldoni (Rafael).

THE MESSENGERS: When a mysterious object crashes down to earth, a group of seemingly unconnected strangers die from the energy pulse, but then awaken to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending Apocalypse. Cast: Shantel VanSaten (Vera); Diogo Morgado (The Man).

So what do you think? Any potential hits here? Or should The CW have kept one of the shows they canceled? Sound off in the comments!
