CES 2014: Lenovo Announces 10 and 11-Inch Miix 2 Convertibles ...

lenovo_miix_2It seems Lenovo was merely warming up when taking the wraps off the A859 Android smartphone and ThinkPad 8 Windows tablet, as a couple of other gadgets, which seem to be both bigger and more technically impressive, have also gone official at CES 2014 in Las Vegas.

These are called the Miix 2 10 and Miix 2 11, joining the previously released 8-inch Miix 2 model to make for a complete, rich and fulfilled convertible family. Starting at an unexpectedly low price of $499, the 10-incher is due out in March and runs, just like its siblings, “full” Windows 8.1 (as in not the crappier RT alternative).

A quad-core Intel Atom “Bay Trail” CPU should keep the tablet/mini-laptop hybrid chugging, aided by 2 GB RAM and seasoned with your choice of 64 or 128 GB SSDs. On the connectivity front, you sure get plenty all things considered (HDMI, microSD, Wi-Fi and optional 3G), while the display is also surprisingly generous and vibrant, sporting a 1,920 x 1,200 pixel count.

Coming a month later than its baby brother, the Miix 2 11 costs a tad more, at $699 and up. Mind you, the bad boy is certainly worth it (and then some), as it packs Intel Core i5 speed, up to 8 GB RAM (!!!) and 256 GB of solid state storage.

The 11.6-inch screen boasts the same exact 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution for an inferior ppi and there’s no microSD card slot, but I’m fairly certain the full-size USB 3.0 port and 8-hour battery life will make up for the minor flaws in the end. Bottom line, you can say CES has dropped two must-buy portable computing machines already. And the show is just getting started.
