The nation was in shock over the weekend when 20-month-old Freddie was kidnapped at his own home in Bangsar. Fortunately, he was found alive and well in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa the day after around noon.

Now that Freddie is safe, the police can now focus on finding out who would cause Freddie and his mother Sarah Joseph such distraught.

On Sunday, police detained a 53-year-old man and his Filipino girlfriend over the kidnapping of Freddie. The Filipino woman had worked as a maid for the Joseph for about a year, but left her job six months ago.

City police CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the Filipina and her boyfriend were arrested at a rented flat in Taman Desa. The police learned that a complaint was lodged to the former maid’s agency, and was later reassigned to another employer.

“We have reasons to believe that the two can either directly or indirectly help in the investigations,” said SAC Datuk Ku.

On Friday, Freddie was snatched away by a man in their home in Jalan Terasek 7 around 6.30pm. He came along with a woman in a Toyota Camry and snatched Freddie away while his mother was feeding him. Freddie was grabbed and handed to the woman in the car before they left the Joseph’s home.

Reports also say that the man had threatened Joseph with a machete.
