Celeb make up artist Justine Jenkins talks cruelty-free festival ...

Fearne Cotton's make up artist talks guilt free style

From the lack of access to running water to so much sun that your slap slides straight off your face, festival make up can be a bit of a nightmare and that's before you even think about where the products you're using come from. But looking great in a field doesn't have to be hard and seeing as you're about to be communing with nature, celeb make up artist Justine Jenkins has some great tips to help you look great with zero guilty conscience..Cruelty free festival make up tips from celeb make up artist Justin Jenkins

"I'm on a big believer in encouraging people to buy cruelty free products. No animal should suffer for the beauty industry. The make-up and beauty shopper should be able to shop consciously and comfortably with full awareness of the "story" behind the products they purchase. You can be decadent and indulgent, whilst remaining compassionate to the earth and its inhabitants.

"Over the years I've been to many festivals looking after presenters such as Fearne Cotton, Gemma Cairney, Reggie Yates and Greg James and I'd like to give you my insider tips on what to take to make your festival experience a glamorous one."

Tip #1: Play it safe in the sun

"Protection from the sun is really important so a high SPF is essential. Even if rain is forecast you don't want to be caught out in our ever changeable climate. Both Murad and Neals Yard Remedies do great sun protection creams and aftersun products packed with natural ingredients to both protect and hydrate the skin. A hat will help prevent you from getting sunstroke if you're out in the sun all day. It will also stop your hair from drying out in the sun and give you some warmth if the temperature drops."

Tip #2: Keep it clean

"You may think just a pack of cleansing wipes will do but trust me, after day 2 you will wish you had something better. Wipes are good for removing make up but they don't cleanse the skin properly so you could end up with spots by the time you get home. Either take travel sizes of products you love or decant them into small empty bottles. Aveda and Liz Earle sells perfect travel size cleansers and moisturisers and you can get empty bottles from Boots."

Tip #3: Multi-use products will save you space

"A lip balm is great to stop lips from chapping and if you take a good natural one like Burts Bees or NYR, it can also double up as a balm for cuticles and patches of dry skin. A facial spritz is really handy - keep it in the cool bag and when you're skin is parched, mist it all over for a refreshing pick me up. Brilliant in the morning to wake you up if you have a hangover. Try The Body Shop's Vitamin E mist."

Tip #4: Experiment with high-impact colour

"Festivals are a great time to really play with your hair and make up and try things a little different. A bright lipstick is a great way to feel cool with minimum effort. I love Fever by Hourglass, a bold bright pink that suits all. Either put it on straight from the bullet or if you want a softer look, dab on with your finger and blend in."

Tip #5: Glitter solves everything

"Glitter eyeliners are another great way to add a party feel to your make up, my favourites are by Urban Decay. Draw the line keeping close to the lash line for an intense flash of glitter or load up the brush and place all over the lid blending with your finger for a lighter effect. I use Urban Decays All Nighter Long Lasting Setting Spray to set the make up so you can party knowing your make up isn't sliding off."

Tip #6: Nail it

"Nails are another way to brighten up your festival outfit and I really love Fearne's own brand from Boots. The colours are really modern and always on trend so you can't go wrong."

Tip #7: Whip your hair back and forth

"Dry shampoo is a festival essential which works to both keep your hair looking fresh all weekend and smelling good. Spray into the roots and massage in being careful to ensure no residue remains. Try dry shampoo from Kevin Murphy and Fudge."

Tip #8: But most of all...

"...Drink lots of water and have fun!"

So what do you make of Justine's tips? Is cruelty-free make up something that makes you think twice when you're shopping on the high street?
