The Wanted have performed a rendition of ‘Afternoon Delight’ dedicated to Ellen DeGeneres.

The boyband credited DeGeneres with helping them to make a breakthrough in the US market as they accepted the People’s Choice Award for ‘Favorite Breakout Artist’.

Max George started the band’s acceptance speech by saying: “This never happens to us! We’ve never won anything before. So obviously we’d like to thank the fans… to win this just shows that our fans are real troopers, so thanks so much.”

He also thanked Justin Bieber for inviting the group to tour with him, and DeGeneres for inviting them onto her show.

Nathan Sykes added: “Over Christmas, I was sat down with my mom and she was saying, ‘What do you want to do this year? and I said, ‘I want to win a massive award’. So this unbelievable. Fans, you guys did it… you guys are wicked.”

“We actually said we’d do a song for Ellen if we did win, so Ellen, this is for you” added George, before the band performed their acapella version of ‘Afternoon Delight’.

The Starlight Vocal Band track topped the Billboard Hot 100 in July 1976, and enjoyed a renaissance when it was featured in the movie Anchorman.
