Beyonc And Jay-Z Lose Fight To Trademark Name Of Baby ...

Beyonce and Jay-Z have lost a fight to a small wedding planner to trademark the name of their daughter’s name Blue Ivy.

The couple filed legal papers, shortly after the birth of their first child to protect the name.

It has been revealed that they were planning to launch a range of baby products and clothes named Blue Ivy. The range of products and clothing would have added to their fortune of more than £1.1 billion.

The pair lost the lawsuit, to a wedding planner based in Boston who had named her company Blue Ivy in 2009; the ruling from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office meaning that they have no legal right to keep the name as a trademark name.

The owner of Blue Ivy, Veronica Alexandra found herself fighting for her company name after the powerful show business couple had named their child Blue Ivy.

But the couple found themselves to have two failed attempts after they were unsuccessful. The trademark office denied both the applications.

Alexandra explains that she was forced to file her own application as she panicked that she could lose her business name if the celebrity couple won the lawsuit.

She said: “My company had been called Blue Ivy since 2009. I came up with the name, and if they had won my business could have been restricted.

“It was important for me to protect the name of my company. We are very successful as wedding planners and wanted to stay that way.

“Of course Blue Ivy is a lovely name, but I had to make sure that I would be able to continue using it for my business.”

She went on to explain why she had chosen the name Blue Ivy for her company so that she could stand out from her competitors.

She said: “Blue is a very powerful colour used by any companies and Ivy conjures up a very romantic image. I was very happy with the name, and of course business spiked after Beyoncé called her baby Blue Ivy. We do between 40 and 60 weddings a year.”

Alexandra concluded that she would give up her rights to the name Blue Ivy if the couple were to make her an offer: “If Beyoncé and Jay-Z want to buy me out I’d welcome that.”

The couple have never clarified why they named their daughter Blue Ivy.

The colour blue has been said to be Jay-Z’s favourite since he has released three albums called ‘Blueprint’.

The name ‘Ivy’ has been referenced to the Roman numeral (‘IV’) 4 – a number which is significant for Beyonce and Jay-Z; Jay’s birthday is on the 4th December whilst Beyonce birthday is on 4th September. The couple also married on 4th April in 2008. Beyonce also entitled her fourth studio album with the letter 4.
