Bieber's secret gig a scream
Bob Katter is not a Belieber.
Justin Bieber may be setting teenage hearts a-flutter during his global promotional tour. But the Queensland Independent MP thinks the Canadian pop superstar is but a pale imitation … of himself. Mr Katter took to Twitter this morning to tell the world that he had Bieber's trademark mop haircut first.
"Bieber who? I had that haircut 40 years ago," Katter told his 5,000-plus followers, before posting a picture of himself sporting a decidedly Bieber-like do.
In the pic, a 1960s-era Katter is wearing a sedate suit and tie (unlike Bieber's denim vests and rebel earrings), but the resemblance is nevertheless uncanny. And the Bieber-Katter parallels don't stop there. Both Bieber and Katter have "off limits" topics.
For Bieber, it is his girlfriend Selena Gomez. This stuff is personal, right? That's why Bieber is only talking about his love life through his music. It is unclear what Katter has to say about Gomez, but the Queensland MP is decidedly squeamish when talking about gay marriage. Last month when Katter was asked about gay marriage on Channel 10′s The Circle, he refused to answer the question. "It's utter irrelevancy that no one has ever raised with me in 39 years [in politics]," he snapped. They are both into reinvention.
With his new album, Believe, Bieber is rejigging how we think about love, seemingly unperturbed by all the others who have sung about the matter in the past. "Love has been talked about over and over and over again, so you have to be creative," he told reporters yesterday. Katter is similarly trying to reinvent how we approach politics. With his newly formed Katter's Australian Party, he is aiming to "change the direction of Australian prosperity" (through things like job creation and infrastructure). So far there has been no mention of love. Nor of One Direction, whose heartthrobs are challenging Bieber in the battle of the hairstyles. They have both gained notoriety through video.
