Holly Scally has opened up about what it was like to date a boy who has become one of the most fanciable teenagers in the world.
The Irish beauty dated One Direction star Niall Horan for nine months, before he shot to fame on the 2012 series of The X Factor and has remained friends with him ever since.
He may have earned £1 million in the last year alone, because of 1D's sell out tours, chart topping records and best selling books, but back in the day the most Niall could afford to treat his lady friend to was a bag of chips.
Holly, 16, told Now:
'We didn't have much cash. On one date, Niall took me to Roma Café in Mullingar
for some chips which probably cost about two Euros [£1.60].
'Even back then, I knew he'd
go far.'
Niall entered the X Factor as a solo artist and was later asked to join boyband One Direction by Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger. Je joined Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson and as a group, they have went on to become one of the most successful acts from the reality TV show ever.
Holly isn't surprised by Horan's success and added:
'He was always singing and playing his guitar and was really good.
'He used to sing me songs he'd written or covers, like Justin Bieber's Baby or Jason Mraz's
I'm Yours.
'Once he paid 15 Euros [£12] to hire a boat and rowed me across a lake while singing to me.'
Niall is currently in the middle of an American tour and this evening will perform in Mexico with his bandmates. He seems happy to be there and tweeted his followers saying:
'Hola mexico ,happy to be here!'
The boys will be in America until the end of this month, when they will come back to the Uk and continue with work on their second album.
