Jessica Simpson calls fiancé Eric Johnson "Super Dad," in the new issue of People and after reading about his early weeks as a new parent, we're kind of wondering if she's not that far off.
Johnson sounds like he was a superstar in the delivery room. "There was a tarp up, but seeing everything happen through Eric's face was a moment I'll never forget," Simpson told the magazine. "He was holding her hand and mine, so immediately we wanted that family bond. It was emotional."
The former pro football player clearly was moved by becoming a dad as well. "When you have your own kid, it's crazy," he said. "It's such an intense love, and so natural."
For Mother's Day, he reportedly bought Simpson a diamond locket featuring little Max's birthstone, an emerald and a moon insignia in honor of the little girl's nickname, "Moonface." (Apparently she came out "looking like the moon.") He then had matching necklaces made for Simpson's sister, Ashlee, the grandmothers and the godmother, too.
And get this — Simpson says he's "the quickest diaper changer," an assessment corroborated by a People editor who noted (in the behind-the-scenes wrap-up), "Eric is a diaper ninja. I've never seen anyone change a diaper more quickly or more efficiently in my entire life." Maybe that's the reason why Simpson is already jumping back in the sack — three weeks after giving birth — with the guy she calls "the sexiest man in the world"?
"He has found his calling," Simpson's BFF Cacee Cobb told the magazine. "Maxwell's definitely going to be a daddy's girl!"
Aww — he sounds adorable! Becoming a dad really can bring out a whole new side of your partner. I was lucky enough to have a guy like Johnson by my side when I gave birth to my two daughters. His diaper-changing skills started off pretty slow and he didn't lavish me — and all my female relatives — with diamonds, but I got flowers, a beautiful simple ring and tons of love and support. Although, for me the sexiest thing about those early days after giving birth was the thought of a 20-minute uninterrupted nap. (Sorry, babe.)
